1966 Kazuo Hashimoto Classical Guitar – Handcrafted in Japan – No. 63
This is a mid-1960s Kazuo Hashimoto classical guitar, built in Japan in 1966 and numbered No. 63. It carries the blue Kazuo Hashimoto label reading “This is a production under my supervision and guidance”, which places it firmly in the period when Hashimoto was overseeing workshop builds rather than fully solo instruments.
Traditional full-size classical with a spruce top and beautifully figured maple back and sides. The maple has strong, natural flame that really stands out in person. Mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, slotted headstock with original tuners.
Condition is very honest for its age. Structurally solid with no cracks. There is visible cosmetic wear throughout—scratches, small dings, and edge wear, especially on the back and sides—which is consistent with a well-played 1960s instrument. Nothing that affects playability or stability.
Tone is warm and clear with good projection, leaning more toward a traditional classical voice rather than a modern, bright sound. A great example of the Japanese classical guitars that were gaining serious traction internationally in the 1960s.
